On June 14, 2018, Michigan National Guardsmen from Joint Force Headquarters, the 110th Attack Wing, and Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center attended remembrance ceremonies for Latvian victims of Soviet mass-executions and deportations, which began June 14, 1941. Maj. Gen. Gregory Vadnais and Command Sgt. Maj. Dale Clarmont joined their Latvian counterparts, laying wreaths in Gulbene and Litene, Latvia. Gregory Vadnais, re-enlist two Michigan Air National Guardsmen, Staff Sgt. Tory Grodstein, and Staff Sgt. Andrew Wheeler, after unveiling “Michigan Avenue” at Ādaži Military Base, Latvia, Tuesday, June 12, 2018, to commemorate the 25-year relationship between Latvia and Michigan under the U.S. National Guard Bureau's State Partnership Program (SPP). The event was also attended by U.S. and Latvian Military members. After the dedication, the distinguished visitors toured a construction work site where Michigan National Guard Engineers from the 110th Attack Wing, Battle Creek Air National Guard Base, Mich. have been operating as part of their annual Deployment for Training (DFT). The Civil Engineer Squadron is the fourth Air National Guard rotation supporting the 435th Construction and Training Squadron, Ramstein AB, Germany's project oversight. The families and airman had the opportunity to meet with vendors, place carnival games where the kids could win prizes, eat, interact and just socialize with other families within the wing.

Throughout the morning they broke out into focus groups to gain knowledge in areas such as spiritual guidance, financial planning, fitness and nutrition, mental health, and social presentation, among others.

UPDATE: water sampling at and around Battle Creek Air National Guard Base was conducted between April 16 and May 11, 2018. The results for water PFAS/PFOA content are expected by July 6, 2018. Additionally, soil bore samples and monitoring well soil samples were taken at the installation; analytical results were below applicable criteria. We will continue to update with more information as it becomes available.
